In Module 1, we set you up with all that is needed to ensure that you get the very most out of your Illustration Bootcamp learning experience.

I will walk you through the fundamentals of Adobe Illustrator, and everything that you need to know before embarking on your illustration journey. You will receive your first homework assignment which is designed to help you get comfortable with the most basic tools and functionalities of Adobe Illustrator.  

You will also receive your invitation to the member’s only Slack group so that you can connect and communicate with your Illustration Bootcamp cohort.

THE FUNDAMENTALS

MODULE ONE

In module 2, we dive a little deeper into the tools and functionalities within Adobe Illustrator. We learn about various transformation tools and processes that will allow us to create different kinds of artistic effects. 

For the homework assignment we use our new found knowledge and skills from all the lessons we’ve learned so far in order to create an original composition using simple shapes and forms.

VISUAL DESIGN

MODULE two

Module 3 is dedicated to Adobe Illustrator’s most important foundational tool- the Pen Tool. I’ll teach you the ins and outs of mastering this tool, so that you can create clean, crisp, and precise vector shapes. 

You will learn how to create visually appealing line work illustrations- and learn about the process/ workflow for quickly and efficiently adding color to your compositions.

ADVANCED ILLUSTRATOR FUNCTIONALITIES

In Module 4 we begin to ramp up the complexity and deep dive into some advanced Illustrator functionalities. This is where we start to learn about some of the processes and workflows that will take our basic illustrations to the next level. 

For the homework assignment, we will be creating a “flat” style character illustration using free-form shapes. I provide detailed run-throughs for all of my examples so that you can follow along and see how an illustration comes together from start to finish.

ADVANCED ILLUSTRATOR EFFECTS

Module 5 takes an even deeper dive into the advanced Illustrator effects and functionalities that will really help your illustrations pop! I will walk you through multiple topics like patterns, textures, gradients, and more. 

This module highlights some of the more “decorative” or “aesthetic” Illustrator effects. Throughout this module, you will be able to try out and test these different techniques, and pick which ones you like and think you would like to carry through in your own illustration practice.

EXPLORING
ILLUSTRATOR STYLES

Module 6 takes you through the process of creating original character illustrations from reference. There is a specific focus on how different techniques and artistic decisions impact the overall look and style of an Illustration. 

We start off by focusing on body proportion and compositions, and move into facial features and hands. In these later modules of the course we are using all the techniques and tools that we learned in previous modules, and putting them into practice to create unique and original pieces.

PORTRAIT ILLUSTRATION

Module 7 goes through the process of creating unique portrait illustrations from a reference photo. We will learn how create illustrations of faces that ACTUALLY look like the photo, without having it feel like a cheesy image trace. 

This module is perfect for people who would like to start taking on commission work, or just want to be able to draw their friends and family.   

MODULE SEVEN

CREATING AN ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION

To wrap up the course, I walk through a process that I call "Frankenstein" Illustration. This module will teach you a unique method of creating a fully original and unique illustration, that you can use in your personal work, as well as freelance and commission work.

This method is particularly helpful in instances where you might have to draw a specific character scenarios, poses, or gestures.
